ASH'S QUEEN SONG RATINGS

This is my page where I rank every Queen song ever made and how much I like it.

Why? I don't know.

The Millionaire Waltz (Mercury)

Quintessential Queen music, and in my opinion, one of Freddie's best compositions. This song was written by him about John Reid, who was Queen and Elton's John manager at the time, and was Elton's openly gay lover. It's probably then no surprise this track is a beautiful ballad to love which perfectly mixes gorgeous baroque piano and strings with Brian and John's guitar and bass riffs. This song is almost like a more realized version of Bohemian Rhapsody, and never gets old. 9/10

SIDE B

Somebody To Love (Mercury)

Another unbelievable classic from Freddie. While it's not one of my go-tos, it always punches me in the gut when I listen to it. The constant layering of Freddie's main vocals and the backing 'call and response' gospel choir paint a perfect picture of a dramatic, soul-searching track, which has long been co-opted for romantic struggles of all sorts of people. Brian's guitar riff in the middle section is as amazing as ever, and the rising choir in the latter third of the track is unparalleled. 8/10

Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy (Mercury)

Yet another amazing song from Freddie. This song tells of an older time, when serenading was in and speed-dating was out. Plenty of queer folk want nothing more than to imagine being or having a 'good old-fashioned lover boy', and this song fills in that fantasy perfectly. The gorgeous, operatic nature of this track, as well as the backing chorus that calls out Freddie's chivalrous ways gives an amazing sense of theatrics. "There he goes again", indeed. 9.5/10

Drowse (Taylor)

While Roger has quietly penned some of Queen's most popular tracks, Drowse is without a doubt one of the most underrated songs in Queen's discography. A gorgeous song about the turmoil of growing older, it perfectly encapsulates the emotions one feels sitting by the riverbank as the sun sets in the Summer. I never grow old of this track, and it's ability to invoke an emotion I didn't know existed in me can never go understated. This track shows just how brilliant Queen are. 10/10
